Metal Framing

Precision steel stud framing for residential and commercial — the invisible work that makes great drywall possible.

Foundation Work

Framing That Sets Up
a Perfect Finish

Drywall is only as good as the framing it goes on. Studs out of plumb, tracks not level, blocking missing where it's needed — these are the problems that cause callbacks, cracking, and doors that don't close right.

LR Contracting frames to spec every time. We read structural drawings, coordinate with electricians and plumbers, and frame openings to the correct rough dimensions. Our framing is what makes the taping stage straightforward instead of a fight.

We do both residential and commercial metal framing — custom home interior partitions, basement finishing, office fit-outs, retail, multi-unit corridors and common areas. We also do exterior framing with sheathing and continuous insulation systems where required.

What We Do

Our Framing Scope

Interior Partitions

Residential and commercial partition walls framed to spec — 16" or 24" on centre, correct gauge stud for the wall height, proper blocking for fixtures and hardware.

Ceiling Soffits & Bulkheads

Dropped ceiling frames, bulkheads over kitchen cabinets, soffit boxing around ductwork and beams. We frame the geometry that makes coffered and tray ceiling details possible.

Door & Window Openings

Rough openings framed to the correct dimension for the door or window unit. King studs, jack studs and headers properly installed. Openings that are plumb, square, and sized right.

Commercial Office Fit-Outs

Full floor layouts for commercial office renovations — private offices, meeting rooms, corridors, reception areas. We work from architectural drawings and coordinate with mechanical and electrical trades.

Blocking & Backing

Steel blocking installed for TV mounts, grab bars, heavy cabinetry, railing connections and anything else that needs solid backing behind the drywall. We map blocking locations so trades and homeowners know where to anchor.

Exterior & Fire-Rated Assemblies

Exterior wall framing with sheathing where required. Fire-rated assemblies using the correct stud gauge, board type and spacing per code. We know what the building inspector expects and we frame accordingly.

Common Questions

Metal Framing FAQ

Do you do wood framing or only metal?

Our specialty is metal stud (steel) framing for interior partitions and commercial work. For residential work we primarily use metal studs. Wood framing for structural elements is handled by the framing carpenter — we typically come in after the structure is complete.

What gauge stud do you use?

25 gauge for most residential partitions, 20 gauge for taller walls and commercial applications, and heavier gauges where structural loads or fire ratings require it. We specify the correct gauge for each wall in your project.

Do you read architectural drawings?

Yes. We work from drawings on most commercial projects. If you have architectural plans, send them with your inquiry and we'll review them before the site visit.

Can you frame before the electrician runs wire?

Yes — and this is the normal sequence. We frame first, then electrical and plumbing run through, then we board. We coordinate with other trades on the schedule.

Do you install blocking for TVs and cabinets?

Yes. We map and install steel backing for TV mounts, cabinetry, grab bars and any other wall-mounted fixture. Just let us know what's going on the walls before we frame and we'll make sure the backing is in the right place.

Do you supply the materials?

Yes. Track, studs, clips, fasteners — all supplied and included in our quote. We use quality Canadian-standard steel throughout.
